***Kew Gardens Celebrates the Diversity of Queens Artists ***

If you are looking for a large, commercial art show, then this is not the event for you. But if you prefer a full day of art experiences that celebrate the rich diversity of Queens, then mark your calendar and come to the urban village of Kew Gardens on Sunday, September 22, 2013 (rain date October 6th), 11:00am-5:00pm, to enjoy Kew Gardens Community Arts Day.

At the centerpiece, you will find an outdoor art show, Art in the Kew Gardens Cinemas Park (on Austin Street, off of Lefferts Boulevard), which will showcase an eclectic mix of fine art. The organizers, a small group of local artists, had a vision for Kew Gardens; to bring together talented Queens painters, photographers, glassmakers, potters, jewelry artists, illustrators and fiber artists and that is exactly what was accomplished. Expect an open welcoming very professional art show with a small town feel!

The entire neighborhood will be turned into an art experience at the Kew Gardens Community Arts Day. Watch awesome Sidewalk Chalk artists transform NYC concrete into intricate, wild works of art through vibrant colorful designs. Learn how culture influences art from demonstrations by multicultural artists. Practice these art forms and other projects at the Kids Kraft Korner. Chat with a recently published comic book writer/illustrator at The Comic Den. Smile as Michael Shimuoff, a Kew Gardens master tailor, teaches your child how to sew on a button. And if you've always wanted your portrait drawn, Roxanne an experienced portrait artist from Sunnyside, Queens, will quickly sketch your likeness and matte it for you to take home.

Stroll around Kew Gardens! On display will be 100 flags decorated by residents, adults and children, with their Wishes for the World. This local project was inspired by a Tibetan belief that when you string prayer flags together, the breeze blows through and around them and spreads the good wishes and positive messages far and wide.

A chain-linked fence in front of the New Homestead Home for Adults is usually just a fence. On September 22nd, it will be transformed into a space to exhibit intergenerational art created by senior citizens and children.

Enjoy the Kew Gardens Musicians at an outdoor show that will feature Broadway tunes, musical standards and some beautiful Spanish melodies.

Be sure to stop by the Information Booth, for the listing of the day's happenings, What's Going On In Kew Gardens Today?" Check out local businesses for promotions and demonstrations.

The day's finale will be a poetry and prose readings by the REZ Reading Group at Odradeks Coffee House (82-60 Austin Street, next to LIRR) beginning at 5:00pm. Relax and enjoy a cup of latte while listening to live poetry and short story excerpts.
